This year the IT-section, in collaboration with the IT university and Lindholmen Science Park, organizes a mentorship program for students.

Lindholmen Mentorship Program has been running for six consecutive years. New for this year is a closer collaboration between Lindholmen Science Park, the IT University, University of Gothenburg and the Göta Student Union. Previous years we have only offered companies at Lindholmen to be a part of the Mentorship Program, but this year we will offer companies located in Gothenburg the opportunities to be part of the programme 2012.
Last year about 50 students and an equal number of mentors were involved in this one-year program, where the goal is to create a better interaction between industry and universities. The mentors came from companies like IBM, Dassault Systémes , Ericsson, Volvo Group and Volvo Cars and students in their second year at the IT University.
Participation in mentorship program gives me broader understanding of the software industry and its needs. I feel more prepared to whatever awaits for me after graduation
- Yuwen He (Software Engineering '11)
As a general rule, it is recommended that mentors and students meet monthly for one-hour appointments at the minimum. Students in the program are expected to take the lead in the relationship, identify the goals, and respect your time and the investment you are making.
Your role as mentor is like that of a coach – to help the student become what he or she wants to be. Activities may include discussion, job shadowing, networking, company tour, and professional meetings, based on the goals of the student and your resources.
All students are aware that while work experience is one possible outcome, it should not be an expectation, and mentors may not necessarily be in a position to offer work experience. The key feature of the Program is the opportunity to interact with a workplace professional (you) and other professionals (your colleagues and contacts).
As a student you need to belong to one of the educational programmes at the IT University and have started the second year or higher. Due to limited amount of mentors you need to write down a motivation why you will be part of the program and what type of mentor you would like to get.

If you have any questions regarding the mentorship program please don’t hesitate to contact either Göta Student Union or Stefan Jacobsson at Lindholmen Science Park.
Companies can support the Lindholmen Mentorship Program by promoting it to their employees, forming networking groups for those in the program, and providing tours or events for the mentors and their matched students.
